6 Things to Help Lose Weight at Lunch

By Jordan Wilson

At a busy day at work, you may not be able to go to the gym to have a work out after. The best compromise is to watch what you eat to maintain your healthy lifestyle.

Here are some lunchtime tips to help you lose weight:

1. Drink water

Have a glass of water before eating lunch, it will help settle things of insatiable hunger while taking up some room in your stomach, helping you eat less. Other than water, you can drink unsweetened tea throughout the meal as well.

2. Calories DO matter

Depending on your recommended daily calorie intake, lunch should be around 300 to 600 calories. Use a calorie calculator such as Scooby’s Calorie Calculator to help you add up your food.

3. Pack it

Since it’s difficult to know many calories are in lunches made at cafes, the best way to accurately track the calories is to pack it by yourself at home. You can label each item with its calorie count to serve as a visual reminder on how many you’re consuming.

4. Fibre and protein, a match made in heaven

The fibre takes longer to digest, so hunger will be delayed, leading to you not even thinking about reaching for more calories soon after lunch ends, and the protein will sustain your energy levels. For example, a quinoa edamame salad contains at least 10 grams of fibre and 15 grams for protein.

5. Leave your desk

Sitting at your desk, mindlessly chomping your food while browsing the net during lunch means you’re not fully aware of every bite going in your mouth. This doesn’t allow your brain to fully register how much food you’re actually eating, so by the time your plate is empty, you’ll be itching for more.

Even if it’s only 10 minutes of your time, take a break to just sit and eat. Enjoy lunch with your friend, since eating with others will help you take it easy and eat slower.

6. Don’t eat everything

When we’re faced with a certain amount of food on our plate, it’s difficult not to eat everything, especially when you’re used to it from childhood. Get in the habit of eating slow, enjoying it, and stopping once you feel the slight sensation of fullness. Pack the leftovers for later.
